Download Salmon
Salmon builds are published as GitHub releases. Always get the latest build from the release page rather than an unofficial mirror.
Minecraft 1.21.11 · build 7e-006
Java 21+ required · GPLv3 licensed
Which file do I run?
Each GitHub release includes more than one artifact. The runnable server distribution is the bundled Paperclip-style JAR:
Run this
paper-bundler-*-mojmap.jarThe bundled, runnable server distribution. This is the file you start with java -jar.
Not a server JAR
Salmon-*.jarThe plain project artifact. It is not the bundled server distribution — don’t try to run it directly as your server.
Release notes for the current build rename the runnable JAR to salmon-1.21.11-7e-006.jar for clarity — check the release page for the exact current filenames, since they can change between builds.
First start, step by step
- 1
Install Java 21 or later
Salmon requires a Java 21+ runtime. Confirm with java -version before continuing.
- 2
Place the bundled JAR in its own server directory
Use an empty directory just for this server. Keep the JAR, world, and configuration files together.
- 3
Start it once, then accept the EULA
The first start generates eula.txt and default configuration files. Set eula=true after reviewing Mojang's Minecraft EULA.
- 4
Review salmon.yml and config/salmon-opts.yml
Check spawn caps, redstone implementation, and whether optional cleanup should stay off, then restart the server.
java -Xms1G -Xmx4G -jar salmon-1.21.11-7e-006.jar --noguiKeep everything in one directory
Keep the server JAR, world, and configuration files in the same server directory. Salmon copies config templates only when a file is missing — it won’t overwrite your existing configuration after an update.
Back up before changing defaults
Make world backups before changing optimization settings or running startup scripts on a world you care about.
Prefer to build from source?
The repository includes the Gradle build used to produce the bundled server JAR, plus the full Paper patch set.
